Slow Cooker Loin Tip Roast (Serves 10-12)
Loin tip roast is lean and tasty. I bought one at the Alpharetta Farmer’s Market on Saturday from Bobby and Jennifer deGraan of deGraan Farms Grass-Fed Beef because I trusted that anything they offered would be good. My Google search did not produce any useful information, but my slow cooker experiment convinced me that loin tip roast is good and I welcome the opportunity to buy more in the future. My first meal with the cooked meat was Pulled Loin Tip Roast with Wilted Greens.

Cook time: 8 hours
5.5 pound loin tip roast
1 sweet yellow onion
Red chili powder
Directions: Peel and cut onion into half-moon slices. Prepare a spice rub with cumin, red chili powder, garlic powder, and salt. Season roast generously on all sides and lay it in the slow cooker. Pour in one cup of water. Arrange a single layer of onion across the top of the meat and lean extra onion against the sides. Place cover on slow cooker. Set temperature to slow cook (200 degrees on my unit) and time to 8 hours. That’s it! The house smells great after a few hours and continues to smell great until after you pack the leftovers away in the refrigerator.
Notes: My roast rose up almost 2 inches from its original height and shrank by almost 2 inches from its original length somewhere after 3 or 4 hours of cooking. The cooking process was otherwise uneventful.
My slow cooker is a Cuisinart Multi Cooker that I picked up at Williams-Sonoma because my local store had one in stock and I wanted to start cooking right away. Amazon sells the Cuisinart, but seems to be out of stock frequently. The Breville Stainless-Steel 7-Quart Slow Cooker with EasySear Insert on display in my Store is similar. Check them out by clicking on the Store link in the upper right hand corner of this site. The Cuisinart has a see-through top and the Breville has a stainless steel top. I like being able to see inside without opening the lid, but the Breville sells for $75 less than the Cuisinart.
